Centre de robotique et de vision industrielles Inc. (CRVI) has announced an additional investment of $1.5 million for specialized equipment to set up an advanced Robotics 5.0 laboratory.
This leading-edge equipment includes next-generation robots, smart sensors and actuators, and a powerful supercomputer.
This research infrastructure will create a technological platform linking a group of connected objects with the ability to perform tasks needed to produce goods and services without programming. These abilities will be developed through simulation and improved by aggregating information (data), which will then be transferred to the cloud for processing.
According to CRVI general manager Yves Dessureault, 5.0 will be the age of artificial intelligence: “While 3.0 allowed us to automate and 4.0 allowed us to gather information, 5.0 will allow us to process this information autonomously. Industrial, collaborative, and mobile Robotics 5.0 will combine the latest technological advances in artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud or edge computing, and 5G to enable robots to perform more complex tasks and operate in less structured environments.”
Other partners will join CRVI’s team for this project: “A group of experts from the Synchronex network and our partner companies will work with us to develop the 5.0 technology of the future. This collaboration with our partners is made possible by our 2021–2026 research program,” said Mr. Dessureault.
